MTB cycling: The already top-class starting field at this year's Cyprus Sunshine Cup will be enriched by another top athlete with Anne van der Breggen (Boels-Dolmans). The road Olympic champion is in very good company in Cyprus: Gunn-Rita Dahle-Flesjaa (Merida), Sabine Spitz and Jaroslav Kulhavy (Specialized Racing) also have an Olympic gold medal. While the other three Olympic champions are firmly in the MTB saddle, Anna van der Breggen only makes a detour into the countryside. The performance of the Dutch woman should definitely be exciting!
In 2013, Marianne Vos from the Netherlands proved just how strong road cyclists can be off-road. Vos also entered the Cyprus Sunshine Cup as an Olympic road champion and promptly won the Afxentia stage race. Of course, Anna van der Breggen does not start completely unprepared in Cyprus. A few days ago she won the two-stage Costa Blanca Bike Race together with Margot Moschetti in Spain. The two riders will then meet in Cyprus: Bart Brentjens will bring his entire CST Sandd American Eagle team with him, including Grant Ferguson, Hans Becking, Didier Bats and Sebastian Carstensen, as well as Margot Moschetti. The men will also get down to business. Frenchman Jordan Sarrou (Team BH-Sr Suntour-KMC), who is also a top ten candidate in the World Cup, has very good chances of winning. The Afxentia stage race will be held from February 23rd to 26th, followed by the race in Amathous on March 5th.
