Cycling: Bora-Argon 18 professional Dominik Nerz has to end his career at the end of the year due to health problems. This was announced by his team today in a press release. The 27-year-old emphasizes that there is no alternative to this step – it would be extremely difficult for him, but he had no other choice.
It was a little hinted at: Dominik Nerz was absent from the squad of the Raublinger racing team for the big tours this season. This was justified again and again with weak form and health problems. The latter turned out to be more serious than expected and forced the 27-year-old to hang up his cycling shoes at the end of the season. In the Velomotion interview in August 2015, Dominik Nerz said: “In five years I'll be one of the old men in the peloton. I hope that I will still be in the best of health, that I can look back on some great successes. And that I still enjoy it and still burn for it.” – Like Dominik, we would have wished that this wish would come true - but health comes first.
Dominik Nerz on the end of his career: "It is with a heavy heart that I will have to end my career at the end of 2016 due to health problems. It is a very difficult step for me and saying goodbye to the professional scene will certainly not be easy for me. However, after intensive medical examinations, there is no other alternative for me. I gave everything to the end and the team supported me as best they could, for which I am very grateful. I can look back without regret on a very good as well as intensive time, which brought me many experiences, happy moments and also friendships. Now a new phase of my life is beginning, in which I will give 100%, just like in cycling.”
