Test: Getting older is no fun. But there is a remedy for the problem that you can no longer read the speedometer or navigation system when cycling. At first glance, the "Eagle Five" looks like normal sports glasses, and when you look straight ahead they are. But optical glasses are incorporated in the lower third (available in +1,5 to +3). So as soon as you look down, you look through these fields like with normal progressive lenses.
We tested the Eagle Five in practice and were immediately impressed. It solves exactly the problem that glasses wearers with only slight farsightedness have when cycling. The gaze is usually directed forward. The eyesight is easily sufficient for an enjoyable ride; but a quick glance down at the display of a Garmin or other cycling computer reveals nothing. The eye does not adjust quickly enough and neither speed nor route instructions can be read casually.
However, the ground area of the Eagle Five is exactly in the small window through which you can look down towards the handlebars. Once you have chosen the right strength, you can suddenly see the display perfectly sharp – a completely new driving pleasure.
Of course, we are not talking about varifocals from the optician here; this often costs more than 1.000 euros. We are talking about a great tool that costs just 45 euros and offers enormous added value.
You don't have to get used to it: the sporty seating position on the bike makes it intuitive to use. The Eagle Five is delivered with classic sun protection lenses with gradient and contrast-emphasizing yellow and also clear lenses; there are also three interchangeable nose bridges, a glasses pouch and a clip-on headband. The strap length is adjustable.
And finally ...
The Eagle Five from Black Sun is a real problem solver, and on top of that with a price-performance ratio that makes us recommend these glasses without reservation.
