Cyclocross: Do we really have the first case of motor doping in professional cycling? At today's Cyclocross World Championships, after the U23 women's race, the UCI confiscated the bike of the Belgian rider Femke Van den Driessche - due to abnormalities in the check for 'technological fraud'.
There is not a lot of information about the incident yet. In the early evening, the UCI published a short statement in which the world association announced that it had confiscated the bike of one of the participants in the women's U23 race at the Cyclocross World Championships after there had been anomalies during the technical control. The UCI has been carrying out more and more such controls for some time, because rumors about e-doping have persisted in recent years - even if there have not been any confirmed cases in the professional sector (at least up to now?).
A little later, the Belgian sports portal Sporza published an article in which the name Femke Van den Driessche was associated with the case, citing the Belgian cycling association. Apparently the confiscated bike is that of the young Belgian who originally started the race as one of the favorites but had to retire on the penultimate lap.
We expect that there will be more information from the UCI on the incident later this evening, but no later than tomorrow.
