It's a break from racing in the GCC, but the upcoming tough races at the Nürburgring and in Dresden are casting their shadow.
That's why it's very important, especially for a rider like me, who isn't the best mountain goat, to ride a lot of mountains in preparation and to get a feeling for the right step on the climb. For us from Munich it's not a big deal to get to the mountains, that's our advantage. So get in the car and head south. This time we have set ourselves the goal of the Dolomites in order to collect kilometers and, above all, meters in altitude.
We were lucky, the weather cooperated. Out of bed early in the morning and into the saddle. Especially in the morning hours it was a bit cooler and we enjoyed the ascents more than the cold descents. But with every degree on the thermometer, this relationship shifted and soon we were enjoying the cool descents after strenuous climbs in the midday heat.
The training was good and on the way home we rewarded ourselves with a hearty dinner at what is probably the best Bavarian restaurant in the south of Munich. At the “Gasthof zum Lindl” in Fentbach, we let Schanuk, the head chef who is also a cyclist, spoil us with schnitzel, Kasspatzen and apple strudel.
An all-round successful weekend is coming to an end and we are already looking forward to the upcoming races. Above all the upcoming 24h race in Kelheim. The Merkur Cycling Team sets out to defend last year's title. It's going to be tough this year, the competition has upgraded and there are even more teams that are within striking distance due to the quality of the drivers.
Of course we will report live from Kelheim again, we are very excited!
See you soon, your Friedrich
