Markt: During the Eurobike Media Days we naturally took a look at the stand of the Austrian bike specialists from KTM. There is all sorts of news there for the new season: For example, all fullies have been revised, there is a new e-bike and there are also some updates to the proven Revelator racing bike.
KTM Scarp 2016 – proven concept, reinterpreted
The race fully in the KTM portfolio, the Scarp, gets a completely new frame for the 2016 model year. While the predecessor was a classic four-bar linkage with Horstlink, the rear end of the new frame follows a simplified concept, here we are dealing with a supported single-bar linkage with 90mm spring travel. KTM is talking about Straight Line Link (SLL) technology here: Seat stays, dampers and the mount form a straight line here. Due to the simple concept and the saved deflection, the damper should react more sensitively to bumps. In addition, fewer bearing points also mean a lower-maintenance system. Also new is the Boost 148 hub in the rear, which is supposed to provide more rigidity.
The KTM Scarp will appear in 2016 exclusively for 29″ wheels. There are still no final details on the equipment variants, but the frame will be available in three different versions: One with a main frame and rear triangle made of carbon, another with a main frame made of carbon and rear triangle made of aluminum, and for price-conscious buyers there will also be a model made entirely of aluminum to be available
Incidentally, the more trail-oriented Lycan model will also get the new frame – so KTM is offering a completely revised fullies product range for 2016.
KTM Macina Kapoho 27+ – plus size with motor support
With the KTM Macina Kapoho, the manufacturer from Upper Austria is breaking new ground. For the first time in the history of KTM, tires with the new 27,5+ size are used on the motorized E-Fully. The 3″ wide tires allow driving with much less air pressure, offer a very good level of grip without increasing the rolling resistance too much – but thanks to the Bosch CX drive, this is negligible anyway.
The proven 4-joint with 125mm spring travel is used as the frame, which is already known from the Lycan 2015. The bike will only be available with an aluminum frame; there is currently no information on the respective equipment variants.
KTM Revelator 2016 – Clever detailed improvements
For the 2016 model year, the KTM Revelator has received a number of detailed improvements that already exist convincing wheel to do even better. This includes, for example, the integrated rim brake, which is embedded in the chainstay via direct mount. This allows the seat stays to be continuous - this saves weight and increases comfort at the same time. The integrated saddle clamp and the asymmetrical chainstays are also new.
