Cycling: Emanuel Buchmann and Trixi Worrack are the new German champions in road cycling. After their victories in today's races in Bensheim, the two are allowed to wear the jerseys with the black, red and gold stripes for a year.
Trixi Worrack (Velocio-SRAM) clearly won the women's race over 102 kilometers. As a soloist, after four difficult laps through the Odenwald, she reached the home stretch in Bensheim and was able to thoroughly enjoy the triumph in bright sunshine. In the third lap, she and Claudia Lichtenberg (Liv-Plantur) broke away on the seven-kilometre climb to the Kuralpe and shook off her escape companion with a dry attack just before the finish. Third place went to Lisa Brennauer (also (Velocio-SRAM). For Worrack it was already the third German championship title on the road.
For the men, Emanuel Buchmann (BORA – ARGON 18) dons the jersey with the German colors for the first time in his career. And not only that: For the 22-year-old new professional, it was even the very first professional victory ever. Only on Tuesday was Buchmann in that Called up his team for the Tour de France. The new German championship jersey will therefore celebrate its premiere at the world's largest cycling race next weekend. In the men's race, which ran over eight laps and 204 kilometers, BORA - ARGON 18 impressed with a solid team performance. In the group of 16, which determined the victory among themselves, there were still five of them and in the end defeated favorites such as André Greipel (Lotto-Soudal) and John Degenkolb (Giant-Alpecin). Behind Buchmann, Nikias Arndt (Giant-Alpecin) and Marcus Burghardt (BMC) took second and third place.
