After the Skoda Velotour in Frankfurt did not take place on May 1st for known reasons, the second GCC race "Circuit Cycling" at the Hockenheimring took place on Sunday - the first flat course in the German Cycling Cup 2015. Normally my route. After my fall in autumn and the late start of training in February (REHA in Bad Wiessee with 25 watts on the roller, as Bernd still teases me), I didn't really know if I could support the team.
The task was clear. Position yourself in front and first counter all attacks as long as you can. And that's the way it was. The usual fast race was characterized by countless attacks. The entire team was attentively represented at the front and had an overview of what was happening in the race. In the middle of the race, a 14-man group formed and was able to gain a lead of over a minute. Since only Thomas was represented in the group, follow-up work was required. Four of the team were turned off and were able to rejoin the 14-man lead group after a few laps.
Of course, the next attacks followed immediately, until a group of 14 drivers was able to pull away again, who decided to win among themselves. There were three from Strassacker and two from Bürstner-Dümo. Also three Merkurjungs with Ronny, Christian and myself.
In the end, Ronny Freiesleben finished in second place behind Dirk Wettengel from Team Wiesenhof and ahead of Werner Grundkötter in third place from ROSE Team Münsterland. Christian Müller from Bürstner-Dümo took fourth place. Our Christian Dengler finished seventh. I myself was able to take a good 12th place and thus decide the age group ranking for myself.
Stefan, who took second place in Göttingen, was able to secure the yellow leader's jersey with 21st place. With the team we took second place behind Team Strassacker. For me personally, it's a satisfaction to be able to contribute to the team again and I'm already looking forward to Leipzig.
Your Manfred
