The training preparations for the upcoming World Cups of this season are now becoming more specific and intensive. I spend a lot of training sessions on my BH-Bike Ultimate. Training is relatively easy for me. Despite the intensive units, I have a lot of fun with the bike. My bike feeling is getting better every day and my training is going well. It's also one of my favorite times of the year now. The intensive green in the forest and the many blossoms adorn nature and so it is always a pleasure to exhaust yourself with the bike in the forest!
The first XCO competitions start and right before my first planned start I get a gastrointestinal infection! I try to stay calm and focus on getting healthy. Nevertheless, I have been struggling with the infection and its after-effects for longer than I want to admit and accept! With the lack of "energy" my start into the XCO season will be a test of patience for me!
The Bundesliga HC race in Heubach is one of my favorite races and, like every year, has international top-class competition. I was able to finish second in the last two years. My aspirations are high this year, but with this year's history, I'm starting without the necessary self-confidence. I have to make the best of the situation! An incredibly tough race in very muddy conditions. The uphill passages are extremely exhausting and the downhill is extremely slippery. On this route, everything is demanded on this day: strength & condition & driving technique! I finish fourth. Wow! I'm very satisfied and I know that I'm on the right track towards the World Cups. That gives me motivation and self-confidence.
In the meantime I got the new BH G6 road bike with the new Shimano DI2. A real high-tech machine! I'm doing a tour through the beautiful Upper Black Forest. My goal is Freiburg's local mountain, the "Schauinsland". There are countless different ways to get to the Schauinsland tower by bike. But today I'm on the road and with a BH G6 like this, street training is a lot of fun. The mountain is much easier to cycle up compared to the bike. Once at the top, a breathtaking view of the Feldberg & Black Forest awaits me! We continue in the direction of "Notschrei". On the descent, the BH G6 is incredibly good in the corners. It gives me a safe driving experience even at high speeds. The circuit is just perfect. Fast & precise! It's the first time for me to be on the road with an electronic shifter and I'm thoroughly impressed. I'm looking forward to getting electronic shifting on my competition bike soon! It will be my premiere at the first World Cup in Nove Mesto / CZE!
With the World Cups approaching, tension and expectations are increasing. My goals are high and I want to do my best for them! A pre-Olympic season is usually a bit special. And I want to represent my championship jersey well!
In addition to the hard training sessions and the first competitions, I try to find ways to relax. An important point in high-performance sport! The schedule is fully planned with competitions & training & travel & other commitments and therefore there is little time for "private"! In my opinion, however, a body only works well in the long term if it is also given the necessary regeneration. One possibility for me is regular sauna sessions. I really like going to the sauna and so we have one
weekly “girls sauna” evening introduced at the Olympic base in Freiburg. There is time for conversations & relaxation & regeneration. There is very little talk about sport, even if we are all athletes from the same or different sport. This evening is a sports-free zone! I'm a big fan of the cold pool. It's just a great feeling to jump into the ice-cold pool after the sauna session and then relax on the lounger while the whole body is freshly supplied with blood and the entire musculature starts to tingle.
I also love to cook. Preferably “freestyle” without a prescription! If there is time, it is pure relaxation for me. Music on and let's go! I cook very seasonally, so there are many different asparagus dishes on the table and fresh salads with various side dishes. So I have my time to relax and at the same time I give my boyfriend a little treat when he comes home from work hungry!
I always get a little holiday feeling with a good cappuccino. Even if it's only for half an hour. It's always nice to relax and enjoy a cappuccino after a workout or on a rest day. For me a simple way to switch off!
At this point in time it is still a little more than a week until the first World Cup start this season in Nove Mesto na Morave / CZE (May 24.5th). A week later is the home world cup in Albstadt / GER (31.5.). Keep your fingers crossed for me and be there “live”. At the track to cheer on or on "Redbull Live Stream"!
