Cycling: It was an almost incomprehensible performance that the Austrian Christoph Strasser put on the asphalt at the former Berlin Tempelhof Airport last weekend. In 24 hours he covered a total of 896,173 km and thus set a new world record.
He looked exhausted – On Sunday, about 24 hours after setting the new 24-hour world record, Christoph Strasser patiently answered questions from fans and journalists at the Specialized booth at the Berlin Bicycle Show. He said with a grin on his face it's not that good to sit down - no wonder when you consider what the 32-year-old's thighs had to go through in the past 48 hours.
He had actually set himself the 900km mark as a personal goal and of course the question arose as to how much the missing 4km annoyed him afterwards. "Not at all,“ he says with an exhausted smile on his face – the 900km were simply an additional motivation for him, a benchmark he wanted to strive for. And maybe he'll try that goal again? "Or the 1000km on a track,' he adds, although for the time being 'is very far away."
It was admirable how patiently he faced the public 24 hours after this unbelievable feat, even if he doesn't really like the limelight, as he admits. Nevertheless, he patiently gives autographs to his young and old fans at the end.
Finally, some moving pictures of his rounds on the Tempelhofer Feld:
