The first medals have been awarded: On Saturday, the first day of racing in the German Cyclocross Championships took place in good weather.
Seniors 3 and 4 made the start early in the morning, and Matthias Lastowsky from Gunsha Racingteam was able to assert himself ahead of Armin Raible and Lars van der Sloot on the course that had become soggy overnight. In the Seniors 4, Karl-Heinz Jürß didn't give his opponents a chance.
Hollmann wins youth race
The race for the youth U17 riders followed directly afterwards: Juri Hollmann from Cottbus was able to easily win the championship title with a lead of 34 seconds. He did best on the course, which was particularly difficult for the youngest of the day. In the places behind, David Westhoff-Wittwer, Rico Brückner and Domenic Karrasch fought a great duel that Westhoff-Wittwer won. Rico Brückner finished behind him.
Drumm dominates U23 races again
Just in time for the U23 race, a good wind picked up and blew away the clouds in the sky, so that the field, led by the Lindenau brothers, went off-road in good weather. Max Lindenau was able to determine the race for the first laps until Felix Drumm took the lead and set the pace, so that he drove a safe race and confidently defended his German championship title. Unfortunately, things didn't go so well for the second favorite of the day, Paul Lindenau, who suffered a defect on the first lap and lost a lot of time. Halfway through the race, however, he was able to move up to fourth position again and briefly even sniffed the podium positions until he had to pay tribute to the race to catch up and fell back to fifth place. Meanwhile, Yannick Grunner and road driver Silvio Herklotz fought an exciting duel for second place. Yannick Grunner was only able to gain a small lead shortly before the finish, so that Herklotz had to be content with third place.
Between the U23 race and the Seniors 2 race, the female students and youth drivers got the chance to prove their skills. The fastest among the students was Antonia Schmidt from Kleinmachnow, who was able to outperform even the fastest youth rider, Lucillerutsch.
Berner relegated Danowski to second place
After that, the senior 2 drivers took care of the last championship race on Saturday. As in previous years, there was a duel between Stefan Danowski and Ralf Berner on the slightly dry track, which still forced the drivers to run with many muddy passages. Ralf Berner prevailed again and relegated Stefan "Dano" Danowski to second place. In third place, Vladi Riha crossed the finish line just a short time after Dano.
The last races will be held tomorrow, with the focus on the women's and men's races, in which the top drivers Hanka Kupfernagel, Sabine Spitz, Philipp Walsleben, Marcel Meisen and Sascha Weber will also be at the start.
So if you want to see cross-sport at the highest level, you should come to the Rudolf Harbig Stadium in Borna tomorrow from 13 p.m.
