At the weekend we met more than 30 riders, supervisors and friends of the Kirchmair Cycling Team in the wintry Allgäu for the 2015 team presentation. Even if almost 30 centimeters of fresh snow in just over 24 hours transformed the Allgäu around Füssen into a real winter wonderland and thus provided an interesting contrast to our own event - the new season has really started for everyone now! The invitation of our host – the hotel summer – not only numerous drivers, but fortunately also a number of press representatives and partners of the team followed to let the plans for 2015 sink in.
Of course, the focus was on the drivers, who were presented individually and in detail. We then used the opportunity for various photo shoots, primarily to photograph individual portraits. It wasn't really enough for a team photo with a "serious cycling atmosphere" during the presentation - with heavy snowfall and white mountains in the background, the backdrop for our sport is probably the wrong one - but we definitely had fun at the shoot...
Another important item on the agenda was of course our ambitions for the cycling marathons and competitions in the coming months. At more than 20 events - mainly one-day races - you will be able to meet the Kirchmair team this year. The racing calendar undoubtedly has something to offer for every type of driver and taste: from exotic races with an extremely long route (over 300 kilometers) in the far north, such as the Mecklenburg Lake Circuit, to completely flat races that are more suited to sprinter types, such as the Garmin Velothon Berlin to the classics in the Alps such as a SuperGiro in Lienz, the Stelvio Santini in Bormio or of course the classic Ötztaler in Sölden, we will be represented everywhere.
In order to form the appropriate basis for these projects, there is of course a structured training program on the timetable. Most of us will start with basic training at home - some of us will be embarking on a two-week training session in Mallorca in early February. As soon as the foundation has been laid, the team will then move to Lake Garda at the beginning of March and to Meran over Easter at the end of March / beginning of April in order to set the first accents before the racing season opens for us at the end of April.
After the "official" part, there were still a few organizational items for the team itself: trying on the clothing for 2015 from our partner Bioracer, organizational details for further training planning and our training camps and much more before there was plenty of time for many relaxed conversations over dinner. After this really successful day, everyone is really hot that the winter is over and the asphalt can be put under the wheels again.
