Market: The BMW Group recently presented a new concept for the e-mobility market under the MINI brand. The project dubbed MINI Citysurfer combines the idea of a kick scooter with the advantages of modern e-bikes.
The typically British MINI genes are immediately apparent in the stylish, red Citysurfer. The high-tech scooter inherited the distinctive rim design and lines from its big, four-wheeled brother. While such kick scooters were popular among children and teenagers in the past, the Citysurfer is intended to appeal to a much wider audience.
The concept here is simple: Like its non-motorized siblings, the Citysurfer can be folded up to save space and easily stowed in the trunk of a small car, for example. But despite the small dimensions, the e-scooter cannot necessarily be described as "handy": The battery integrated in the frame and the hub motor drive the weight up to almost 18kg. But once the chic scooter is unfolded, it accelerates up to 25km/h with the thumb lever and supposedly lasts between 15 and 25km before it wants to be charged again via its 12V connection. The long running time is also achieved by the fact that the battery charges itself while driving via braking energy recovery.
In any case, the Citysurfer is an interesting concept to keep in mind as an e-mobility aficionado.
