Cycling: Philippe Gilbert defended his lead in the general classification on the last day of the Tour of Beijing and took overall victory. Meanwhile, Sacha Modolo prevailed in a high-speed sprint in front of the Bird's Nest and secured his second major professional victory.
The final stage of the Tour of Beijing saw the peloton cover a 117-kilometer distance from Tiananmen Square to Bird's Nest and was dominated by the sprinter teams. Sacha Modolo (Lampre-Merida) only started the final sprint with 200 meters to go and won by less than half a wheel length.
Greg Henderson (Lotto Belisol) was a close second followed by Edvald Boasson Hagen (Team Sky). Tyler Farrar's fourth place was enough to beat Luka Mezgec (Giant-Shimano) in the battle for the green jersey.
Phillipe Gilbert (BMC Racing Team) was able to successfully defend the lead he built up with his victory on Saturday. Thanks to the big sprint to the finish on the last stage, Daniel Martin (Garmin Sharp) was unable to make up the remaining three seconds on Gilbert and had to settle for second place. Orica GreenEdge team rider Johan Esteban Chaves Rubio finished third overall.
