Cycling: The Austrian Matthias Brändle set a new hour record today in Aigle, Switzerland, breaking the record recently set by Jens Voigt. The final distance is still being determined, the provisional result is 51,850km.
Brändle set an impressive pace right from the start. Even if he had to pay tribute to the high initial pace in the last 10 minutes, the time he had accumulated before was enough for him to break Voigt's record of 51,115 km. The atmosphere in the sold-out velodrome was enthusiastic and absolutely worthy of a world record attempt. “I feel great and I am over the moon. I struggled in the middle of the race but the incredible crowd helped me there.”, said a beaming but visibly exhausted Matthias Brändle.
More information about the new record, the exact distance, photos and voices will soon be available on Velomotion.
