Cycling: The Briton Bradley Wiggins denied Tony Martin his fourth time trial title in a row at what is expected to be his last road world championship. The Olympic champion needed 47 seconds less than the defending champion from Eschborn on the 26-kilometre, hilly course.
For Wiggins it was the first title. At the first split Martin still had a 4 second lead, but it wasn't enough to keep Wiggins at bay in the demanding second leg of the course. On the contrary: the Brit turned up more and more towards the end. With a time of 56:25 minutes, Wiggins was the only driver to put a 50m average on the asphalt.
Third place went to Dutchman Tom Dumoulin, who lost forty seconds to the Brit. fourth was Wiggins' Sky teammate Vasil Kyrienka (Belarus), fifth went to Australian Rohan Dennis.
The other two German starters, Lars Teutenberg and Nikias Arndt, took places 48 and 22.
