On Sunday, a very small group of the GREEN'N FIT team started at the Jedermann Mecklenburg Giro in gasoline. Alexander Broch took 13th place over the short distance. In the long race over 164 kilometers, Marion Wittler was a strong 4th. Felix Schmidt rode in the big leading group until shortly before the end, but unfortunately crashed 1 kilometer before the finish line and therefore did not get past 45th place.
This time Marion Wittler reports on her very personal suffering at the end of a long season:
On Saturday we started around noon in the direction of petrol. The journey was relaxed and the accommodation was found quickly. So we were able to get the starting documents early in the evening and then have a bite to eat in Lübz. Back in the pension then the first shock - when unpacking the suitcase I had to realize that I had packed two jerseys but no cycling shorts. Was the season with the German Cycling Cup, an Ironman and, as a treat, Ötzi, perhaps just too much for me? First signs of failure…
Luckily Alex didn't arrive until Sunday and thankfully brought me a selection of suitable clothing! Thanks again for that!
Sunday morning we went to the brickworks at around 8:00 a.m., where we arrived almost at the same time as Alex and I was able to swap my jeans for cycling shorts. So at 9:00 a.m. it was time to hit the track. I quickly realized that I am currently anything but regenerated. To make matters worse, the first time I reached for my bottle, I had to realize that it had separated from me in one of the numerous cobblestone passages. Phew, I now had 500 milliliters for the 160 kilometers. Bernd from the Casa Ciclista team was kind enough to let me have his almost half-full bottle! That's how I got at least 750 milliliters - thanks Bernd!
Overall, the field was very restless, unrhythmic and I – just flat. But DNF is no option, so grit your teeth and through. The rain that started later didn't really increase my motivation. On the home straight, I had to let Bianca Brückner and Carmen Burmeister, who were second and third in the end, go. Doesn't matter. At the finish line, without falling and already in the warm shower in our thoughts. And what did I forget? My towel… well, even a rag that is normally used to cover the gears during transport dries the body.
Now it's time to grit your teeth twice and pull through. At the final in Münster I would have liked to win in my AK and second overall in the GCC - the drudgery must have been worth it.
In this sense – chain right!
