After the great results at the Tour de France, the German professional riders are hoping that there will soon be live broadcasts on public television again in the near future.
The 2014 Tour de France ended with a record result for the German riders. The German representatives were able to win 7 stages. With four stage victories by Marcel Kittel, two by Tony Martin and one success by Andre Greipel, the record of 6 victories from 1977 and 2013 was surpassed.
John Degenkolb is now hoping for a rethink in Germany: "I hope that we will now be trusted and that we will have live broadcasts again." Marcel Kittel also appealed to those responsible: "This is a big signal to all fans in Germany the media in Germany, without going into detail now.”
The achievements of the German professional cyclists are by no means unnoticed by ARD and ZDF. ARD sports coordinator Axel Balkausky lets the fans know that the two broadcasters will now calmly think about the future of the media presence of cycling in their medium. ZDF boss Dieter Gruschwitz adds: "The successes of the German riders in this year's Tour de France will be an important topic."
