The successful detour of the Merkur Cycling Team to the home of the main sponsor ended with a double victory on Sunday. Team captain Daniel Knyss won the Vattenfall Cyclassics for the third time in a row. Stefan Räth from Berlin came second in Europe's largest cycling race for everyone and professionals wearing a jersey from the Norderstedt printing works.
"As a company that has been involved in German amateur cycling for many years, we are very proud of the success here at our company location", main sponsor Markus Adam rejoiced after the double victory in Hamburg. “Recent wins have always looked very easy. But there is a lot of hard work behind it. The Merkur Cycling Team works hard to compete successfully in races. And we all hope that it will also pay off in the end at the German Everyman Championship.”
The Merkur Cycling Team started at the Vattenfall Cyclassics with a team of four in the 155 kilometer longest of the three amateur races. Immediately after the starting signal, a larger group of leaders around the Merkur Druck drivers Daniel Knyss, Stefan Räth, Friedrich Schweizer and Till Baltes dominated the day's racing. As the race progressed, the Merkur Druck duo Daniel Knyss and Stefan Räth pulled away from the peloton and crossed the finish line with a comfortable lead. Stefan Räth, who won the Skoda Velotour in Frankfurt and the Garmin Velothon in his hometown Berlin in the current cycling season, and Daniel Knyss, winner of the day, crossed the finish line together on Hamburg's Mönckebergstrasse.
In three weeks, the Merkur Cycling Team will continue to fight for the German Everyman Championship. In the German Cycling Cup, Daniel Knyss leads ahead of his long-term rival and German Cycling Cup title defender Marek Bosniatzki. A look at the rest of the program promises excitement. The Jedermann Mecklenburg Giro (September 15th) is followed by the Rothaus Riderman (September 26th-28th) before the final of the Sparkassen Münsterland Giro (October 3rd) takes place on the “Day of German Unity”.
