Cycling: The Norwegian Edvald Boasson Hagen will leave the British team Sky at the end of the year. This is reported by the Norwegian online portal Procycling.no.
Boasson Hagen has been under contract with Sky since 2010, but has only been able to build on the successes from his time with Team Highroad to a limited extent in recent years. This was not least due to the fact that the 27-year-old classics specialist often put himself at the service of his captains.
In recent weeks there have been rumors that Boasson Hagen would consider a team change. This was expressed most clearly by Brian Smith, who is currently looking for new drivers for the MTN-Qhubeka team.
The rumors have now been confirmed by manager Boasson Hagens, Birger Hungerholdt. According to his statements, the Norwegian currently has six offers. However, no decision has been made yet. "We have not decided yet", according to Hungerholdt. Boasson Hagen added: "It's important to find a team where I get my own opportunities. [...] It has to be a project I believe in.”
Despite his intention to change, Boasson Hagen will drive the rest of his racing program for Sky.
