Cycling: Marcus Burghardt injured his right shoulder in a fall yesterday during the sixth stage of the Tour de France. BMC Racing team doctor Dr. Max Testa describes his chances of starting Friday's stage 50:50.
Burghardt was one of several drivers who fell after about 80 kilometers of a total of 194 to be completed. “It was slippery and one rider braked, everyone in front of me fell. I hit the tarmac hard with my shoulder and knew immediately something was wrong.", explained Burghardt.
The 2008 Tour de France stage winner got back on his feet and helped team captain Tejay van Garderen stay out of the wind - before finishing the stage 6:20 behind stage winner André Greipel (Lotto-Belisol).
Burghardt's shoulder was x-rayed, nothing broken. “Marcus has injured his shoulder joint. We have been cooling with ice and he is now resting. We'll see how he feels tomorrow. The chances are currently 50:50 that he will start.”
