Cycling: The Tinkoff-Saxo team currently dominates the mountain stages of the Tour de France with Rafal Majka and Michael Rogers. The team can still look forward to a conciliatory tour after the injury-related retirement of its captain Alberto Contador. Contador himself has now announced via Twitter that his injury will probably take longer to heal.
Just a few days ago, the Madrilene promised to start at the Vuelta a España in September. Now he posted: “A bad day, wound healing is complicated. I don't know when I'll be back on the bike again. Goodbye Vuelta.”
Team Manager Bjarne Riis told Cyclingnews: "It's tough and a long process. […] I think the Vuelta is possible, but that depends on when he can cycle again. It's not a bad break, but it's a break."
Although Riis was cautiously optimistic, it is currently not clear whether Contador will return to racing this year.
