The new Koga Kimera Road Premium has been awarded the internationally renowned Red Dot Award: Product Design 2014. The international jury evaluated a total of 4.815 products from 53 countries and was particularly impressed by the Kimera 's innovative strength and quality.
The Red Dot Awards ceremony will take place on July 7, 2014, as part of the traditional Red Dot Gala and subsequent Designers' Night. That evening, the winning exhibition will also open, showcasing the Koga Kimera Road Premium , before it is subsequently incorporated into the permanent collection of the Red Dot Museum.
According to Koga, the design of the new Kimera focused primarily on drastically improving aerodynamics and comfort, without compromising its renowned stiffness-to-weight ratio. The visibly slimmer tubes and integrated brakes in the frame and fork minimize drag and give the Kimera a remarkably clean design. At the same time, the slightly curved top tube and monostay seat stays allow the bike to retain its distinctive look.
The new Kimera features internal cable routing and is compatible with Shimano's Di2 groupsets. Carbon dropouts reduce weight and ensure optimal frame integration. The bike also boasts a PressFit bottom bracket, a tapered head tube, and a replaceable derailleur hanger. The Kimera comes equipped with a lightweight racing saddle with carbon rails and a 27,2mm seatpost. The bike has been available in two versions since early March 2014: the Kimera Road Premium and the Kimera Road Prestige.
