The Swiss Fabian Cancellara (Trek Factory Racing) wants to improve the hour record in Mexico on August 3rd. As the La Gazzetta dello Sport reports today that the record hunt is to take place on the world cup oval in Aguascalientes, which is known for being extremely fast.

The 31-year-old is said to be followed by a camera team both during his preparation and during the attempt. His four world titles in a race against the clock prove that he has what it takes to improve on the existing world record of 49,700 kilometers from 2005 – set by the Czech Ondrej Sosenka. With the world record attempt in Mexico, Cancellara is following in the footsteps of Eddy Merckx, who also set his record of 1972 kilometers in October 49,431 in the Central American country.
