World Champion Sven Nys (Crelan KDL) won the Superprestige van Zonhoven, which was characterized by sand bunkers, with clever tactics and a good eye. In the sprint he relegated his compatriot Niels Albert (BKCP Powerplus) to second place. Third place went to Belgian champion Klaas Vantornout (Sunweb-Napoleon Games).
The race was dominated by a four-man lead group for long stretches. In the hottest phase of the race, Lars van der Haar (Rabobank), Vantornout, Albert and his teammate Philipp Walsleben had pulled away from the rest of the field. Nys, Kevin Pauwels (Sunweb-Napoleon Games) and Bart Aernouts (AA Drink) followed at a distance.
Nys managed to join the front runners and also countered attacks from Van der Haar and Vantornout. In the last lap it was Albert who broke away together with the world champion, but had to pass on the last straight. Nys benefited from better tactics. After staying behind Albert until a few hundred meters from the finish, he surprised him with an early sprint.
