Sven Nys (Crelan-KDL) won the GP Mario De Clerq in Hotondberg with a solid solo. From the start, the world champion underscored the importance he attaches to the national BPost Bank Trofee. At the finish he was 17 seconds ahead of the Czech Martin Bina (Kwadro-Stannah) and his Belgian compatriot Niels Albert (BKCP-Powertools).
Adverse weather conditions had softened the technically demanding course, which meant that the race for the elite developed into an elimination race from the start. After five of seven laps to be driven, Nys finally gets serious. Albert tried to follow him but had to realize that Nys was in his own league this time. In the last lap he was also caught and overtaken by Bina. Barely a minute behind the trio, Bina's teammate Marcel Meisen crossed the finish line in fifth place. He lost in the sprint to Belgian champion Klaas Vantornout (Sunweb – Napoleon Games). Philipp Walsleben (BKCP – Powerplus) took 8th place as the second best German.
In the women's category, British champion Nikki Harris was unimpressed by the unpredictable weather. Right from the start she set a pace that the other drivers couldn't follow. At the finish she had an impressive lead over Helen Wyman (Great Britain) and Belgium's Sanne Cant (Enertherm-BKCP).
