Belgian Niels Albert (BKCP Powerplus) has recovered well from his injury and celebrated a perfect start to the season. The Belgian confidently won the Steenbergcross in Erpe-Mere for the fifth time in his career.
After the start, Lars van der Haar (Rabobank) and Martin Bina (Kwadro – Stannah) initially led the race. However, neither of them could hold their own at the top and fell back as the race progressed. At the front, Albert and Klaas Vantornout (Sunweb) emerged as the strongest drivers. Together they set themselves apart from the rest of the field. In the end, however, the Belgian champion was no longer able to follow Albert and had to settle for second place, slightly behind. Behind them came Tom Meeusen (Telenet-Fidea) in third place.
Similar to Albert, his teammate Philipp Walsleben also celebrated a good start to the season. In Switzerland, the German champion beat the Frenchman Francis Mourray (FDJ.fr) to one place in the Süpercross Baden.
