The Federation of German Cyclists (BDR) has announced its squad for the Road World Championships in Florence. From September 22nd to 29th, the world's best drivers will be looking for their new title holders in Tuscany. Six women, six U23 men, five juniors and six juniors will be at the start for Germany. The squad of professionals will be published after the conclusion of the Vuelta. A total of nine places will then be up for grabs, six for the road race and three for the individual time trial. Tony Martin (Omega Pharma-QuickStep) is seeded here as the defending champion.
The German team is currently led by the German champion Trixi Worrack (Specialized-Lululemon) and the German U23 champion Silvio Herklotz (Stölting), who is also considered a hot contender for the title after his victory at the Tour de Alsace. Rick Zabel (Rabobank Development) and Jasha Sütterlin (Thüringer Energie) will also start alongside him. The latter is considered a medal candidate, especially in the time trial.
