The Giro d'Italia is one of the three Grand Tours in the cycling calendar, alongside the Tour de France and the Vuelta a Espana. Since its founding in 1909, the Giro has built a rich history and tradition, attracting riders and fans from around the world every year. The demanding race takes place over three weeks in May. The route takes riders through some of Italy's most beautiful regions, from the majestic Dolomites to the sun-drenched coastal towns of the Mediterranean. It is not uncommon for the tour of Italy to also visit foreign countries. The history of the Giro d'Italia is one of legendary riders and epic races. Names like Fausto Coppi, Gino Bartali, Eddy Merckx and Miguel Indurain have left their mark on the Giro with their victories and heroic performances. The race has evolved over the years and has become a symbol of the Italian passion for cycling. The Tifosi, as the Italian fans are called, line the streets and enthusiastically cheer on the riders as they fight their way through the country on the demanding stages. In recent years, some professional cyclists from Germany have also been convincing. Marcel Kittel achieved several stage victories not long ago.
