Cycling

Cycling inspires millions of people worldwide and is one of the most fascinating sports due to the physical and mental performance as well as the diverse tactical possibilities. From road racing to track cycling events, mountain biking and cyclocross, this sport offers something for everyone. Road cycling is probably the best-known discipline. In exciting tours such as the Tour de France or the Giro d'Italia, the professionals fight for every victory over many stages. Jonas Vingegaard and Tadej Pogacar are particularly strong in multi-stage races. The monuments are also hotly contested. Classic hunters like Mads Pedersen, Mathieu van der Poel and Jasper Philipsen know how to impress in one-day races. But track cycling also has its own charms and is particularly popular here in Germany. In the cycling stadium, athletes compete against each other in various disciplines such as the sprint, the pursuit or the omnium. BDR riders have emerged victorious in many of these breathtaking duels on the track in recent years at World Championships, European Championships and the Olympic Games. First and foremost, Kristina Vogel should be mentioned. The exceptional German athlete won numerous gold medals before she suffered paraplegia from a serious fall. With her positive demeanor, she is still an absolute role model today. For those who prefer something a little more adventurous, mountain biking offers the perfect challenge. The riders prove themselves on challenging trails and mountainous routes in various disciplines such as cross-country, downhill and enduro. A closeness to nature and technical skills are just as important as physical fitness. In recent years, Nino Schurter and Danny MacAskill in particular have made mountain biking known worldwide. Cycling cross, also known as cyclocross, is also enjoying growing popularity. In these races, drivers have to put their skills to the test on a mix of gravel, grass and forest paths as well as obstacles such as stairs or sand passages. The fight against the elements and the unpredictable nature of the route make cycling cross a true adventure. Wout van Aert and Mathieu van der Poel are particularly well-known in the cyclocross scene.
