Shimano bicycle derailleurs are world-renowned. But for the Japanese manufacturer, the path of power transmission between rider and bicycle doesn't end at the crank or pedal; Shimano is also at the forefront of cycling shoe development. Now, the brand presents Dynalast 2.0, a redesigned shoe platform intended to improve long-distance comfort and power efficiency on gravel, XC, and road bikes.
Shimano Dynalast 2.0
The oft-used phrase "evolution rather than revolution" aptly describes the development step Shimano is taking with the introduction of Dynalast 2.0. At the heart of this update to the cycling shoe design platform is an optimized fixation of the foot within the shoe, while allowing the forefoot more natural movement under load. The fit for different foot shapes is further improved thanks to three different fit options. These advancements in biomechanics are based on a wealth of anatomical data collected over the past few years.

Shimano's Dynalast 2.0 technology is found in their higher-priced cycling shoes for gravel, XC, and road riding. The special design is intended to offer advantages in comfort, stability, and pedaling efficiency, making power transfer between foot and pedal pleasant yet effective.
A key aspect of achieving this performance is the fit. With the three fit options – "Narrow," "Standard," and "Wide" – riders can select their perfect Shimano shoe with even greater precision. Here are the specific changes you can expect:
- standard Fit Toe volume increased by 4% compared to Dynalast 1.0, with a similar fit for the midfoot and heel.
- wide fit Toe box 6 mm wider than before; a total of 7% more toe volume.
- Narrow Fit (New) Reduced volume for a closer fit
With the optimizations offered by Dynalast 2.0, Shimano aims to ensure that riders can select correctly fitting cycling shoes based on their foot width, rather than being forced to go up a size to achieve sufficient comfort. We are eager to try out the revised shoe platform ourselves.
