German bike manufacturer Focus is cleaning house – and how! For the new 2027 model year, the Stuttgart-based company is not only presenting extensive updates for its popular e-MTB classics JAM, SAM, and THRON, but also giving the entire fleet a fresh, significantly simplified naming structure. We'll show you here what's changing and what upgrades the Focus e-mountain bikes are receiving in detail!
Anyone who previously wanted to understand Focus's e-mountain bikes had to remember terms like "Squared" (²) for e-bikes or dot series (such as 6.8 or 9.9). That's all over now! Focus is dropping the "Squared" suffix entirely, as there will no longer be equivalent bikes without electric drive. The JAM² will simply become the JAM. The equipment variants are also becoming cleaner: instead of 6.8 or 9.9, the bikes will now be called JAM 8 or JAM 9. The ATLAS gravel bike will have the material designations AL and C, while the abbreviation "MAX" replaces the former 9 series as the highest carbon grade. A ".0" designation is also being discontinued; instead, the prestigious abbreviation "LTD" will now mark the limited-edition flagship model of the series.
Technically, the new e-MTBs are also top-of-the-line. All models feature the 5th generation Bosch Performance Line CX motor, which can be boosted to a hefty 120 Nm of maximum torque via the FlowApp. A visual and functional highlight is the new display integration on the JAM: The Bosch Kiox 400C display now sits sleekly and flush in a custom-designed recess in the top tube, resulting in an extremely clean look, improved readability, and greater protection in the event of a fall.
An overview of the new Focus e-mountain bikes
The Focus JAM receives one of the most exciting updates for a completely uncluttered cockpit with the integration of the Bosch Kiox 400C display into the top tube. The geometry and kinematics of this proven all-mountain bike remain exactly as fans love them. The absolute highlight of the series is the JAM LTD, limited to just 200 units, which boasts the new, recyclable FOCUS one-piece carbon cockpit and electronic Shimano XT Di2 shifting (including AutoShift).

The SAM 9's suspension has received a major upgrade: it now features the completely new RockShox ZEB Ultimate fork and the powerful Vivid Coil Ultimate shock.
