That the world's largest tire manufacturer also offers bicycle tires makes perfect sense – after all, we're all used to seeing Continental, Pirelli, Michelin, or perhaps even Goodyear tires on bikes and cars. But the largest tire manufacturer by volume is the Danish toy company Lego – and the Lego Group has now released a detailed, 60 cm long racing bike model made of building blocks. Naturally, it includes slick rubber tires. We take a first look at the bright red Lego model.
The Lego Icons racing bike #11380 – plastic frame goes full aero
The Lego Icons racing bike, set number #11380, boasts one of the lightest frame weights in the world, in the history of cycling, and indeed, in general. The Danish manufacturer has opted for a special frame construction made of ABS plastic, where individual parts are clipped together – they have explicitly ruled out adhesive bonds. All joking aside, this bright red Lego racing bike is the first bicycle set developed by the toy manufacturer. The Lego Icons series, from which the racing bike originates, is otherwise known for models of space rockets, passenger planes, ships, iconic film scenes, and cars – but everyday objects have also found their way into the series.
Great news for cycling enthusiasts with a penchant for Lego: Now you can have a small Lego racing bike in your living room – complete with a working freewheel, water bottle, and rear kickstand. A taillight (without a working function) is also included. However, the model isn't suitable for minifigures – the aero road bike is just under 60 cm long and 36 cm high, and notably, it doesn't have a UCI license. It's available for pre-order now and will be released on June 1st. The only available version is priced at €119,99 (RRP).
