Wolf Tooth Fat Paw review: High-end grip for large hands

26 November 2025 by Michael Faiss

Wolf Tooth Fat Paw

The name says it all: The Wolf Tooth Fat Paw Lock-on takes no prisoners and, with its massive 37-millimeter diameter, is the undisputed heavyweight champion in our test field. It's clearly aimed at riders with large hands who are looking for maximum cushioning. But beneath the thick silicone skin lies a surprisingly multifaceted character that uniquely combines comfort and direct feedback.

Dimensions and shape

  • Weight 156 g
  • Diameter: 37 mm
  • Length: 132 mm
  • Price: € 49,99
  • Colors: Handle body in black, clamps in various anodized colors

The Fat Paw's dimensions make a statement. Its consistent 37-millimeter diameter makes it a real boon for anyone who finds standard grips too thin. However, its 132-millimeter overall length is rather short. This wasn't a problem for our testers with size 11 gloves, but riders with extremely large hands might find it too small. The high volume and robust lock-on clamps take their toll on the scales: at 156 grams, it's a real heavyweight.

The most striking feature is the material. Wolf Tooth uses a special silicone foam that is a substantial 5,5 millimeters thick. The shape is classically round and forgoes any ergonomic contouring. As is typical of Wolf Tooth, the workmanship is absolutely outstanding. The clamps and screws are first-class, and installation is straightforward.

On the trail: The Wolf Tooth Fat Paw

On the trail, the Fat Paw reveals its contradictory nature. First of all, the cushioning is phenomenal. The thick silicone foam absorbs vibrations extremely effectively, providing a solid, stable feel in your hands. At the same time, the grip is by no means spongy. You get a surprising amount of feedback from the ground – a sensation that takes some getting used to at first. It's soft, but not isolated.

The silicone surface generates an enormous level of grip. Whether with or without gloves, even in wet conditions, you always feel like you have absolute control. This unique combination makes it an interesting option that isn't solely focused on comfort. Even performance-oriented riders who prefer a thicker grip could be happy with the Fat Paw, as it doesn't sacrifice precision with soft rubber.

Wolf Tooth made a small but annoying mistake with the included bar end plugs. The plastic plugs were too large in diameter for our thick-walled carbon handlebars and couldn't be forced in – one even broke during the attempt. For grips in this price range, that's an unnecessary blunder.

The Wolf Tooth Fat Paw isn't an all-rounder, but a highly specialized problem solver. It's the perfect choice for riders with large hands who are looking for a unique blend of massive cushioning, superior grip, and a direct feel. For this niche target group, it's a worthwhile investment despite the high price of almost €50, as there are hardly any comparable products on the market. Everyone else will likely find its extreme design and weight rather unusual.
