Tour de France #15: Tim Wellens celebrates first Tour stage win

July 20, 2025 by Michael Behringer

Wellens Tour de France

Cycling: Tim Wellens has secured another stage victory for Team UAE – XRG. The Belgian champion prevailed in the breakaway against all his teammates and celebrated his first Tour de France stage win in Carcassonne. Having already won the Giro d'Italia and the Vuelta a España, he completed his Grand Tour triple today.

The exciting and entertaining 15th stage of the Tour goes to Tim Wellens (UAE – XRG). The Belgian champion prevailed against all his companions on the 169,3-kilometer undulating course from Muret to Carcassonne. Pogacar's helper was part of a large breakaway group that repeatedly split into smaller groups. Wellens prevailed as a soloist up the steep Pas du Sant and in the subsequent descent. Behind him, Victor Campenaerts (Visma – Lease a Bike) and Julian Alaphilippe (Tudor) had to settle for second and third place.

First rest day, then Mont Ventoux

Today, it took a long time again for a breakaway group to break away. At times, even riders in the top ten in the overall standings ventured on the offensive – but the opposition remained vigilant. Ultimately, there were no gaps between the favorites. Tomorrow, the Tour de France pros will enjoy their second rest day before the race continues on Tuesday with a mountain finish on Mont Ventoux.
