Rotwild R.EX 2025: The new introduction from the German full-suspension specialist integrates a new, extremely powerful motor, the DJI Avinox M1, into the innovative carbon frame and rounds off its all-mountain range with the resulting bolide.
The German bike manufacturer, which first attracted attention in the mid-1990s with innovative aluminum full-suspension bikes, is launching a new bike at Eurobike 2025 that sets standards in both drivetrain and geometry. With the Rotwild R.EX 2025, the manufacturer is integrating a fifth drive system into its portfolio alongside Shimano, Brose, Pinion, and TQ, one that could make life difficult for existing concepts: With the DJI Avinox M1, the R.EX features a motor that is more powerful than any other in terms of continuous and peak torque, with 105 and 120 Nm respectively, while weighing around 2,5 kg and featuring a compact design, it fits perfectly into the frame.
Despite the extreme performance values, the drone specialist’s unit has proven itself in Velomotion test proven to be harmonious and easy to control; control and traction are always present, so that the high torque can be used efficiently on the trail.
Large battery with small weight advantage
Rotwild combines the motor with a new, self-developed battery. Thanks to its carbon housing, the battery weighs just under 3,6 kg, making it slightly lighter than the DJI battery, while surpassing the latter in terms of capacity at 864 Wh. The Rotwild battery is removable, with the "Quick Release Push +" button used for activation. Its compact design ensures an overall sleek appearance of the main frame.
Innovative kinematics with “mid-high pivot”
Rotwild installs the DJI motor in the carbon frame already familiar from the old R:EX, which stands out for its kinematic features: The swingarm pivot point, positioned above and in front of the bottom bracket, is designed to minimize drivetrain influences, which is particularly relevant given the high torque, but also prevents unpleasant phenomena during deceleration – e.g., brake pounding. The raised, large-volume chainstays ("Elevated Box Design") ensure high rear end rigidity.
In terms of geometry, the steep seat angle (78°) and slack head angle (64°) are notable, with the latter adjustable by +/- 0,5°. With a mullet wheelset and maximum 160/150 mm of travel, the Rotwild R.EX is clearly tailored for all-mountain use.
Three variants starting at just under 9.000 euros
The approximately 22 kg lightweight e-fully will be available in three configurations: Core (€8.990), Pro (€9.990), and Ultra (€12.490), all of which feature the 864 Wh battery and touchscreen of the DJI system. The entry-level model comes with "Fox Float Performance" suspension and a mechanical Shimano XT 12-speed drivetrain with a Magura MT5; for a thousand euros more, you can get the combination of RockShox Lyrik Select+ and "Super Deluxe Select+" shock. This model also comes with an electronic SRAM GX shifter. The top model features a Fox Factory suspension and the SRAM X0 Eagle Transmission AXS, not to mention the Crank Brothers carbon wheelset. All models are equipped with e*thirteen components and a dropper post with up to 8 mm of travel.
