Meeus sprints to victory

The mass sprint on the sixth stage of the Tour de Suisse goes to Belgium. Jordy Meeus (RB – Bora – hansgrohe) has finished 186,7 kilometers from Chur to Neuhausen am Rheinfall. David Ballerini (XDS – Astana) and Lewis Askey (Groupama – FDJ) prevailed. Once again, the actual top favorite did not make a good impression Arnaud de Lie (Lotto). The Belgian has been lagging behind his top form for months and seems to lack the necessary instinct for sprint finishes. Today, he has to settle for 15th place. There were no changes in the battle for the yellow jersey. The Frenchman will also be in contention tomorrow. Kevin Vauquelin (Arkéa – B&B Hotels) will start as the overall leader. He continues to lead the overall standings by 29 and 39 seconds, respectively, ahead of his compatriot Julian Alaphilippe (Tudor) and the Portuguese Joao almeida (UAE – XRG).

Will the decision be made tomorrow?

The escape group around the two Swiss Mauro Schmid (Jayco AlUla) and Stefan Kung (Groupama – FDJ) didn’t really get a real chance of success. Firstly, because the sprinters didn’t want to give up the stage victory and secondly because Romain Gregoire (Groupama – FDJ) was still a relatively dangerous man for the overall standings. However, due to the high quality of the remaining trio, the two Swiss and the Australian, fought back. Harry Sweeny (EF Education – EasyPost) surprisingly long. They were only caught in the final kilometer by the onrushing peloton. A preliminary decision could be made tomorrow at the 88th Tour de Suisse on the way to Emmetten. The final climb may be only 3,9 kilometers long, but has an average gradient of 8,1 percent. On Sunday, the Tour of Switzerland concludes with a mountain time trial up to the Klewenalp-Stockhütte winter sports resort.
