After 183,8 kilometers from La Punt to Santa Maria in Calanca, Oscar Onlyy (Picnic – PostNL) celebrate the day’s victory. Joao almeida (UAE – XRG) paced the final climb perfectly as usual. He avoided initial attacks and instead rode at his own pace. Ultimately, only the Briton was able to stay with him, narrowly winning the stage in a photo finish. There were some changes in the overall standings. Romain Gregoire (Groupama – FDJ) lost the overall lead and top favorite Ben O'Connor (Jayco AlUla) lost valuable time. The new wearer of the yellow jersey is the Frenchman Kevin Vauquelin (Arkéa – B&B Hotels).

Grégoire loses the yellow jersey

Initially, more than 20 riders were able to break away on the way up the Julier Pass. Later, the five-man breakaway group formed around bilbao hair (Bahrain-Victorious), Lorenzo Fortunato (XDS – Astana), Alexander Vlasov (RB – Bora – hansgrohe), Javier Romo (Movistar) and Neilson Powless (EF Education – EasyPost). However, during the first crossing of the climb to Castaneda, this group also fell apart, leaving only Bilbao, Vlasov, and Powless. Behind them, the French team led by the Austrian Felix Gall (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale) set a high pace to beat the already dropped leader Romain Gregoire (Groupama – FDJ) and still make the stage win possible. But the leading trio was too strong and held on to the stage victory.
