With the Kalkhoff Entice 7+ Move, the North German manufacturer is launching a new full-suspension SUV e-bike that promises versatility and, above all, comfort. We took a closer look at the model, which is priced at €5.799, and put it through its paces – from urban commuting to light off-road use. Can this low-step-through, full-suspension model really be the all-rounder many people dream of?
All-road comfort redefined: The Kalkhoff Entice 7+ is positioned as an e-bike that bridges the gap between trekking safety and MTB comfort. It's explicitly not designed as a sporty mountain bike, but rather as a robust companion for off-road adventures, without neglecting the well-known Kalkhoff virtues of durability and safety. The foundation is a completely newly developed all-road frame platform, specifically tailored to the needs of comfort-oriented off-road tours.
A key feature is the "Plus+" concept, which allows for a maximum permissible weight of up to 170 kilograms. This means that even heavier riders with luggage don't have to make any compromises; the maximum rider weight is specified at 120 kilograms. This robustness is a clear statement and not often found in this full-suspension class.
The equipment in detail: Solid components for everyday use
At the heart of the Entice 7+ Move is the proven Bosch Performance Line CX drive system. This drive is known for its powerful assistance, which is also easy to control and intuitive to use. Power is supplied by a 600 Wh battery, located under a robust-looking cover in the down tube. The installation space appears generous, so it could potentially accommodate a larger battery – according to Kalkhoff, the new frame platform is explicitly designed for larger battery variants and simplified removal.
Shifting is done with the Shimano Cues mechanical ten-speed drivetrain. Particularly noteworthy is the LinkGlide technology, which was developed specifically for e-bikes: The chain and cassette are more robustly designed, which promises a longer service life and results in noticeably better shifting quality, especially under load. Shifting is smoother and more precise, with less clunking. A Tektro four-piston disc brake provides the necessary deceleration. The large brake discs on the front and rear wheels are a positive feature. They contribute to better stability and a lower risk of fading, especially with heavier riders and on longer descents.
Air suspension and knobby tires
A special feature in this class and for this comfort requirement is the air suspension with 130 mm of travel front and rear. This allows for individual adjustment to the rider's weight – an important aspect, as riders can range from 60 to 120 kg. Many manufacturers often cut corners here and install steel springs that cannot be adequately adjusted.
The low-step-through model tested here rolls on 27,5-inch wheels. This choice supports a low standover height; a version with a diamond-shaped frame and a higher top tube is also available with 29-inch wheels. The standard tires are Schwalbe Smart Sam; our test bike was equipped with CST Gripper tires, which performed well in testing.
The equipment includes a "Supernova Mini 2" headlight and an MIK system luggage rack, which is approved for a load of up to 25 kg and offers various mounting options. The mudguards are pleasingly long and wide and offer decent splash protection.
A Selle Royal Vivo saddle provides comfort, which appears wide at first glance, but has proven itself comfortable even on longer, more strenuous rides. Ergon grips round out the comfort package and offer excellent support for the hands. An adjustable stem also allows for individual adjustment of the seating position. All cables are routed inside the frame from the stem, with the front brake line being particularly unique: It runs internally through the fork tube, rather than outside the head tube to the brake caliper.
Driving impressions: Confident and comfortable on the road
The Kalkhoff Entice 7+ Move is an e-bike that delivers on its promises: plenty of comfort and versatility. The combination of full suspension, a comfortable seating position, and well-designed contact points makes riding a relaxing experience. Even on rough trails, the chassis offers not only comfort but also added traction and safety. This isn't a hardcore mountain bike, but within its intended use as an SUV, it masters all challenges with ease. The smaller 27,5-inch wheels contribute to agility and make mounting and dismounting easier, which provides an additional safety aspect. One minor drawback is the paint quality of the luggage rack. After a few trips with camera equipment, the paintwork already showed clear signs of wear. Although the rack itself is robust, the surface seems somewhat fragile.
Various equipment variants
The Kalkhoff Entice 7+ Move tested by Velomotion represents the base version. Above it is the "Advance" with an 800 Wh battery and eleven-speed transmission (€6.399); the top-of-the-line "Excite" model (€6.999) also features ABS braking and high beams. The cheapest model is already so well-equipped that the upgrade should be carefully considered.
