Rudy Project Rebel: Classic shapes and soft padding
With its carbon fiber look, the new Rudy Project Rebel appears to be out of date; even the tapered sections at the rear were seen in a similar form ten years ago. However, that doesn't stop Team Bahrain Victorious from relying on the protective properties of the Rebel, which boasts a variety of excellent features.
One plus point, for example, is the unusual Fidlock closure, which seems a bit fiddly at first, but after a bit of getting used to, it's easy to open and close. The padding is pleasantly soft and features the fly screen that was once common; an open insert without the mesh is included—good, because it does affect ventilation. The rounded interior is comfortable and ensures that the Rebel fits comfortably on different head shapes.
Optimal ventilation with many openings
22 large vents provide pleasant cooling; of course, top aerodynamic performance isn't to be expected from such a shape. However, Rudy Project is providing the team with the Nytron model as an alternative aero road helmet. Despite the carbon reinforcements, which are intended to allow the helmet's foam body to be made thinner, the Rebel, available in only two sizes, is no lightweight at just under 290 grams. In addition to the team version, the helmet is available in black, white, and red; reflective foils on the back improve visibility. For a helmet without an MIPS liner, the Rebel is rather expensive at just under 300 euros.
