Product News / E-Bike: In keeping with tradition, Bosch eBike Systems unveiled a whole range of new products the day before Eurobike. These include four new or redesigned motors, a new battery, and groundbreaking enhancements to eShift, ABS, and the Flow app. The all-new Performance Line PX drive and the newly formed partnerships with Shimano are expected to significantly shape the e-bike world in the coming season. We have all the details.
For everything from relaxed cycling in the city to sporty tours on an e-mountain bike. Following the sporty innovations in the spring with the CX Performance Upgrade and the CX-R, Bosch is now shifting its focus more towards everyday and leisure riders. The focus is not only on increased performance and new hardware, but above all on expanding the smart system with new partners and digital functions that are designed to make the riding experience noticeably more comfortable and safer. We now offer eBikers even greater flexibility in choosing their eBike – from eUrban and eTrekking bikes to eMTBs“, says Claus Fleischer, CEO of Bosch eBike Systems.
The new drives: A completely new family and powerful updates
The heart of the innovation offensive is clearly the drivetrains. Bosch is not only presenting model updates, but is also launching a completely new drivetrain family based on new hardware: the Performance Line and the PX.
The highlight: The new Performance Line PX
Bosch itself calls it the highlight of the presentation: the new Performance Line PX. And rightly so. This drive was specifically developed for demanding bike tours, weekend excursions, and extended bikepacking trips. It bridges the gap between the comfortable touring drive and the sporty e-MTB motor.
But is it a "small CX" or a "Performance Line with more power"? More likely the latter. With up to 90 Nm of torque, 700 watts of peak power, and 400% assistance, the figures are similar to the well-known Performance Line CX, but the character is different. The PX is designed for harmonious, smoother, and more intuitive response. It's less lively than a CX, which makes it a docile and controllable companion, especially for touring riders and less experienced riders, yet still offers massive power reserves for steep climbs.
The internals of the approximately 2,9-kilogram motor are somewhat simpler than those of the CX. For example, it has only one freewheel instead of two. There's a simple reason for this: This is the only way the PX and the new Performance Line are compatible with a coaster brake—a feature that remains highly relevant in certain markets.
Completely redesigned: The Bosch Performance Line
For a long time, Bosch neglected it, but now the classic Performance Line is getting a much-needed update. This all-rounder for trekking, leisure, and urban bikes had become too big and heavy compared to the competition. That's changing: The new Performance Line weighs just 2,8 kilograms, making it around 400 grams lighter than its predecessor. The form factor is also significantly smaller and more modern. The performance data remains at the proven level with 75 Nm of torque, 600 watts of power, and 340% assistance, ensuring a comfortable and natural riding experience.
More power when needed: Cargo Line and Performance Line Speed
The power packs for cargo bikes and S-Pedelecs have also been redesigned. They are now based on the hardware of the current CX motor, making them lighter and quieter. The big highlight here: The performance values are now individually adjustable.
Cargo Line: It delivers 85 Nm of torque ex works, but can be boosted to up to 100 Nm of torque and 750 watts of peak power via the eBike Flow app. This makes starting with a heavy load on steep climbs much easier. Bosch leaves it up to the user to decide whether they want to use the full power, but points out that higher performance values can lead to reduced range and increased wear.
Performance Line Speed: The S-Pedelec motor for commuters comes from the factory with the full power of 100 Nm and 750 watts and supports up to 45 km/h.
Free upgrade: More power for the Performance Line SX
Good news for owners of light e-MTBs with Bosch drives: The Performance Line SX will receive more power via an over-the-air update in fall 2025. Maximum torque increases from 55 to 60 Nm, and assistance increases to up to 400 percent. Initial riding impressions show that the motor provides noticeably more powerful acceleration, especially at lower cadences – a common criticism of the previous SX. The motor also features the new eMTB+ mode for maximum dynamic performance.
Battery, eShift & ABS: The ecosystem is growing together
In addition to the motors, Bosch has also made changes to the peripherals and significantly expanded the smart system.
New battery: PowerTube 540
With the PowerTube 540, Bosch is closing a gap in its battery portfolio. The new integrated battery offers 540 watt-hours, 40 Wh more capacity than the old PowerTube 500, while weighing the same. It weighs and measures the same as the PowerTube 600, but uses lower-capacity battery cells, making it a more affordable alternative for more price-conscious e-bikes.
The sensation: eShift and ABS become compatible with Shimano
It's one of the biggest news of the year: Bosch and Shimano are collaborating more closely in the future. Bosch is integrating Shimano's popular electronic derailleur systems (XTR Di2, DEORE XT Di2, CUES Di2) into the eShift system. This makes fully automatic shifting possible for Shimano derailleur systems in the Bosch system for the first time. Depending on the riding situation, you can switch between manual, semi-automatic, and fully automatic modes at the touch of a button. New TRP gear systems for trekking and gravel use, as well as the 2-speed hub gear from Classified, are now part of the eShift portfolio.
This opening continues with ABS. For the first time, the Bosch eBike ABS and ABS Pro are compatible with Shimano brakes. Both the high-end XTR and DEORE XT models for e-MTBs and the more affordable MT420 and MT200 brakes for trekking and city bikes are supported. Together with new models from existing partners Magura and TRP, the selection of safe braking systems is expanding significantly. Optimized software and a new inclination sensor in the drive unit are also intended to make ABS control even more precise and shorten braking distances.
More Flow: New app features for safety and convenience
The eBike Flow app, the digital hub of the smart system, is also being expanded with useful functions, some of which are, however, linked to the paid Flow+ subscription.
Battery Lock: Complementing the eBike Lock function, this feature will digitally secure the battery starting in summer 2025. When the bike is parked, the battery locks and can no longer be used in any other e-bike, rendering it worthless to thieves.
eBike sharing: An e-bike can now be shared digitally with up to five friends or family members. The invited people can then use the bike with their own smartphone – including all unlocked features like eBike Lock. Only the bike owner needs a Flow+ subscription to use this feature.
3D map display: The navigation on the Ride Screen now includes a 3D map view that visualizes the elevation profile of the surrounding area. This feature is also part of Flow+.
