Specific construction with specially tuned wheel characteristics: Crankbrothers Synthesis Alloy 2.0 wheels

June 18, 2025 by Andrew Waldera

Product news: A few years ago, Crankbrothers caused a stir with its Synthesis wheels. This was due to the wheels' specific construction, with specially tuned wheel characteristics for the front and rear wheels. Now the company is following up with a completely redesigned second version of the aluminum wheels – and backed by a lifetime warranty.

With Synthesis Alloy 2.0, Crankbrothers is launching a completely redesigned version of the aluminum wheel it introduced a few years ago. Maintaining the core principles of the Synthesis series, the front wheel of the new wheels is optimized for compliance and traction, while the rear wheel provides additional stiffness and strength. Apart from that, however, almost everything has changed. This starts with the material: Synthesis Alloy 2.0 now uses Alloy 6013 instead of Alloy 6069. According to Crankbrothers, this change results in significantly greater strength and durability, with significantly improved tensile, yield, fatigue, and shear strengths.

The surface also shows significant differences from the previous model. Crankbrothers has switched from a brushed to a shot-peened finish to improve durability and achieve a more sophisticated appearance. Another performance advantage is said to be the rim's longer lifespan, improved crack resistance, and greater wear resistance. The rim profile has also been redesigned to achieve greater durability and impact resistance. Thanks to optimized sidewall geometry, strategic material placement in the rim well and on the sidewalls, and different internal widths at the front and rear, every detail is engineered for maximum performance.

Rounding out the promising announcement is a lifetime warranty for the original owner. The Crankbrothers Synthesis Alloy 2.0 wheels are available in the Synthesis Enduro Alloy 2.0, Synthesis E-Bike Alloy 2.0, and Synthesis DH Alloy 2.0 versions in 27.5" / 29" sizes with a variety of hub designs and freehub standards.
