Löffler WPM Pocket Jacket: The traditional brand from the Alpine foothills develops and manufactures its products in Austria. Löffler offers a large portfolio of cycling-specific jackets. As part of our rain jacket test series, we took a look at the light and compact WPM Pocket Jacket.

First impression

The 2,5-layer Löffler WPM Pocket jacket has a PU membrane that can withstand a water column of 20.000mm, but Löffler only advertises the jacket as water-repellent. The fully welded seams also suggest a higher level of protection against moisture. In terms of feel, the jacket feels very pleasant, the outer layer is velvety and the inner layer is slightly rubberized. This has the advantage that sweat can be easily wiped off and the jacket dries more quickly on the inside. The material is also thin and slightly stretchy. The jacket's construction is essentially minimalist, with elastic cuffs at the ends without adjustment options. The only pocket is on the back, but it can fit quite a lot (L=22cm, W=20cm). The entire jacket can easily be stowed in it and there is still space for other items. For safety in road traffic, the jacket has a medium-sized reflector on the back and the small Löffler lettering on the chest is also reflective.

With a height of 1,83m and a chest circumference of 97cm, size M or 50 fits perfectly. During the test ride, a thin fleece could be worn underneath.

The Löffler WPM Pocket Jacket fits snugly against the body without creating a constricted feeling, which is thanks in part to the elastic material. The jacket could only have a little more room in the armpit area. The extended back is cut in such a way that it curves inwards and thus bulges slightly in the lower area. However, it stayed in place the entire time I was on the bike. In general, the jacket fits well and also covers the wrists well on the bike. The collar of the jacket is kept relatively short, which is of course not ideal for bikers who are sensitive to the cold around their necks. In general, the jacket offers good wind protection, including in the zip area. However, compromises have to be made in terms of breathability, because when it gets more intense, the membrane quickly reaches its limits and unfortunately there are no ventilation openings. The only thing that helps here is reaching for the one-way main zip. Reaching for the bag on your back while riding only works with both hands, as the zipper does not move smoothly. The WPM Pocket impressed us positively in our shower test, as we only noticed a slight penetration of moisture after prolonged watering. Here, Löffler can definitely advertise the WPM Pocket jacket as waterproof.
