Cycling: For the third time in a row, Fem van Empel has won the Cyclocross European Championship. The Dutchwoman was once again at the top of an all-Dutch podium in Pontevedra. In the men's race, Belgian Thibau Nys can celebrate the European title for the first time.
Van Empel wins again ahead of Alvarado
It's déjà vu all over again. For the third year in a row, the women's cyclocross European Championship results are: Fem van Empel wins ahead of Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado. While the winner in Pontevedra can celebrate her hat trick, her compatriot will be disappointed with another runner-up finish. Lucinda Brand completes the all-Dutch podium, finishing seven seconds behind the top two. Austrian Nadja Heigl finished in 20th place.

Only Nys is faster than Surprise Orts
While a serial winner triumphed in the women's race, a man celebrated his first major title. Thibau Nys won in Pontevedra ahead of local favorite Felipe Orts, who even surprised the experts. Belgian Eli Iserbyt completed the podium. This marks Thibau Nys' first major cyclocross title, after making a name for himself primarily on the road this year and establishing himself as a true winner in his first professional season. The two best German-speaking professionals were the Swiss riders Dario Lillo and Lars Sommer, finishing in 11th and 15th place respectively. German-speaking riders fared considerably better in the junior categories. Austrian Valentin Hofer finished second in the junior men's race, while Swiss rider Anja Grossmann even managed to clinch the junior women's title.
