Cycling: Stefan Küng won the final time trial of the Vuelta a Espana. The Swiss rider FINALLY celebrated his first stage win in a Grand Tour. The Slovenian Primoz Roglic was not going to let anyone take the overall victory away from him.
Küng wins ahead of Roglic and Cattaneo
With a time of 26:28 minutes, Stefan Küng (Groupama – FDJ) won the time trial in Madrid, finally breaking his curse. The final stage of the Vuelta a España featured a 24,6-kilometer time trial. The Swiss rider finished 30 and 41 seconds ahead of Primož Roglič (Bora – hansgrohe) and Mattia Cattaneo (Soudal – Quick-Step), who took second and third place respectively. This victory marks his first Grand Tour stage win, after coming so close so many times only to be relegated to second place.
Roglic wins the Vuelta for the fourth time
As expected, overall leader Primož Roglič (Bora-Hansgrohe) held onto the red jersey on the final day of the 2024 Vuelta a España. The Slovenian thus won his fourth Vuelta a España, following victories in 2019, 2020, and 2021. Ben O'Connor (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale) secured second place in the general classification ahead of Enric Mas (Movistar). German Florian Lipowitz (Bora-Hansgrohe) can be pleased with seventh place in the Grand Prix after three tough weeks as a domestique. He narrowly missed out on the young rider jersey, finishing behind Mattias Skjelmose (Lidl-Trek). The points classification went to Kaden Groves (Alpecin-Deceuninck), and the mountains classification to Jay Vine (UAE Team Emirates). Wout van Aert (Visma-Lease a Bike) led both classifications until his unfortunate withdrawal.
