Giro d'Italia 2024: All teams, drivers and targets (3/3)

3 May 2024 by Michael Behringer

Giro ditalia teams 2024

Cycling: Eight teams are still missing from our big presentation of the Giro d'Italia 2024 teams. After we've already taken a close look at the teams with the GC riders and the stage hunters, today we're going to take a quick look at all the teams that are likely to have a really difficult time. Because: You don't have a top climber or a top sprinter.

All teams, drivers and targets (1/3)

Arkea – B&B Hotels

Our preview of Jenthe Biermans and David Decker The French team Arkéa – Samsic has two fast men in the team. With this strong competition here, they will hardly be able to really sprint for a stage win. Therefore, it could well be that we find them both in escape groups. We can be particularly excited about this Ewen Costiou. The 21-year-old Frenchman is a strong climber and will definitely target one or two stages as an outlier. He could become one of the discoveries of this Giro d'Italia 2024.

Astana

The Astana team has had difficult years behind it - and probably ahead of it. The times of great success are long gone. Most of the time the men in cyan blue just follow. It will also be difficult for them to achieve top results at the Giro d'Italia 2024. And perhaps even a German has the best chance of doing so. Because Max Kanter will probably start the race as the number one sprinter. He is mainly supported by Davide Ballerini. A first-class stage hunter is Simone Velasco. It will often appear in escape groups on hilly terrain. Astana then touches down in the high mountains Lorenzo Fortunato. The Italian still has potential and could perhaps even attack the top 10 in the GC if things go well. Something similar could alexey lutsenko attempt. But the Kazakh seems to have his best days behind him. Or was the Giro d'Abruzzo more than just a last stand against weak opponents?

Cofidis

Stage hunt – that will also be the motto of the Cofidis team. While Simon Geschke and Thomas Champion will try their luck on more difficult stages Stanislaw Aniolkowski do this on the plane. But the competition is probably too strong to wait for the last few kilometers. Therefore, Cofidis will have no choice but to be present in the escape group every day.

Intermarche – Wanty

Intermarche – Wanty is sending a really strong team for flat and slightly undulating terrain to the Giro d'Italia 2024. Biniam Girmay could win hilly and classic-like sections - both in a sprint from the field and from a breakaway group. If the profile is perfectly flat, you can build it up Madis Mihkels. If things get challenging, the only thing that helps is attacking early. Lilian Calmejane would be someone who could aim for a stage win.

Israel - Premier Tech

The Israel – Premier Tech team has undergone an impressive transformation in recent years. The team of oldies – who were well past their peak – has developed into a team of youngsters. The 2024-year-old is still the captain of the Giro d'Italia 37 Michael Woods. The Canadian will aim for a stage win on mountain stages. In the sprints you will be for Ethan Vernon drive. The strong professional track cyclist and time trialist could take his next development step here. We can be excited about the 22-year-old Riley Pickrell and the 24 year old Marco Frigo.

Polti Cometa

The Polti Kometa team will tackle the Giro d'Italia 2024 with seven Italians and one Spaniard. And attack should also be their motto. With Giovanni Lonardi They do have a strong sprinter with them, but if things get a little more demanding, you shouldn't wait until the finale. The brothers David Bais and Mattia Bais are made for attacks in the mountains. It will be exciting to see whether Davide Piganzoli will already compete in the overall ranking, or whether the 21-year-old and highly talented Italian will rather compete in the mountain jersey and stages.

Tudor

Team Tudor from Switzerland has received a wildcard for the Giro d'Italia 2024. They would now like to use this invitation to put themselves in the spotlight in an offensive and, above all, positive way. You're there for the sprints Alberto Dainese, Matteo Trentin, Alexander Krieger and Marius Mayrhofer a really strong team was nominated. In the mountains could Michael Storer shine. It is possible that the Australian will not only be aiming for stage victories, but also for the mountain jersey.

VF Group – Bardiani CSF – Faizanè

Eight Italians are at the start of the Giro d'Italia 2024 for the ProTour team VF Group - Bardiani CSF - Faizanè. They are also 41 years old Dominic Pozzo alive there again. The old hand has already driven one or two strong tours of Italy, but this year he will probably focus on the stage hunt. The man who is 21 years younger could be a man for the future Giulio Pellizzari be. He is predicted to have great GC talent. Will he show us at the Giro d'Italia 2024? is the team's sprinter Enrico Zanoncello. However, with this strong competition here, it might be difficult for him.
