Giro d'Italia #14 Preview: Time trial duel between Ganna and Pogacar

17 May 2024 by Michael Behringer

Cycling: Tomorrow at the Giro d'Italia we can expect another duel between Tadej Pogacar and Filippo Ganna on the 14th stage. In the time trial, the Slovenian and the Italian compete this time on a fairly flat course.

Giro d'Italia 2024 preview all stage profiles

A flat time trial over 31,2 kilometers

Classification will be made again on the 14th stage of the Giro d'Italia. In the individual time trial over 31,2 kilometers from Castiglione delle Stiviere to Desenzano del Garda, this time there is hardly any obstacle in the way of the riders. Almost exactly a week ago things were different. There, the mountain and GC riders had clear advantages in the battle against the clock, as the climb in the last five kilometers or so had a major influence on the final result. Tadej Pogacar (UAE) sensationally won the stage, even though he was still significantly behind in the interim before the final climb.

Velomotion prediction: Ganna vs Pogacar

The more mountainous a time trial is, the greater the advantages of the time trial Tadej pogacar (UAE) opposite Filippo Gana (Ineos Grenadiers). We saw this on the seventh stage of the Giro d'Italia a week ago. This time, however, the stage profile suits the Italian, as there will hardly be any mountains or hills tomorrow. The hardest climb has to be mastered up to Cavriana. It is only 700 meters long and 5,7 percent steep and therefore no problem for a Ganna. The first-class track cyclist will therefore also win the time trial, followed by Pogacar. Things could get tight behind them because there are plenty of good time trialists who could be in contention for the podium on a good day. We should especially have it on the bill Magnus Sheffield (Ineos Grenadiers) and Edward Affini (Visma – Lease a Bike). The best German cards probably hold Maximilian schachmann (Bora – hansgrohe) in hand.

** Tadej pogacar (UAE), Magnus Sheffield (Ineos Grenadiers)
* Edward Affini (Visma – Lease a Bike), Will Barta (movistar), Josef cerny (Soudal – Quick Step)
