Paret-Peintre puts Bardet down and wins

Stage win for Valentin Paret Peintre (Decathlon Ag2r La Mondiale). The Frenchman decides the 142-kilometer section from Pompei to Bocca della Selva ahead of his compatriot, who is ten years his senior Romain Bardet (dsm-unternehmenich PostNL) as an outlier in its own right. There were a total of 26 men who were able to break away from the main field after a tough fight and were ultimately able to claim victory for the day. The GC riders watched each other until the end of the stage. Only Antonio Tiberi (Bahrain – Victorious) attempted an attack. He finally managed Cian Uijtdebroeks (Visma – Lease a Bike) to take a few seconds off his opponent in the junior ranking.

Giro d'Italia: Kanter & Mayrhofer are out

The four sprinters were officially unable to do so for health reasons Ethan Vernon (Israel – Premier Tech), Max Kanter (Astana), Olav Kooij (Visma – Lease a Bike) and Marius Mayrhofer (Tudor) will no longer take part in today's stage of the Giro d'Italia. However, 26 riders were still really keen on cycling and formed the breakaway group of the day. The two Germans were also there Simon Geschke (Cofidis) and Maximilian schachmann (Bora – hansgrohe). Geschke once again presented himself aggressively by winning the first mountain classification. Jan Tratnik (Visma – Lease a Bike) used the Supergiro intermediate classification to break through the group and break away as a soloist. Formed behind them Valentin Paret Peintre (Decathlon Ag2r La Mondiale), Marco Frigo (Israel – Premier Tech), Andrea Bagioli (Lidl – Trek) and Romain Bardet (dsm-unternehmenich PostNL) a chasing quartet. Ineos Grenadiers took the lead in the peloton.

Paret-Peintre & Bardet chase Tratnik

The leader Jan Tratnik (Visma – Lease a Bike) managed to distance his pursuers by over a minute. Only as the French duo Romain Bardet (dsm-unternehmenich PostNL) and Valentin Paret Peintre (Decathlon Ag2r La Mondiale) worked together and were able to park their companions, the lead fell back to less than a minute. The Bahrain – Victorious team has now taken over command in the peloton. But the stage win was no longer within reach for the group of favorites. Blown for the decisive attack Valentin Paret Peintre (Decathlon Ag2r La Mondiale) around 3,5 kilometers from the finish when he left his compatriot standing, drove forward to the Slovenian and immediately attacked him.
