Narvaez wins in Turin ahead of Schachmann

The 107th Giro d'Italia is underway. This Saturday, at the start of the Tour of Italy, we had to cover 140 kilometers from Venaria Reale to Turin - and it was tough. UAE Team Emirates kept the pace high throughout the day and gave the breakaway group no chance. In the stage final, however, it was Tadej pogacar (UAE) suddenly on its own. This opportunity knew Jhonathan Naravez (Ineos Grenadiers). The Ecuadorian champion stayed together with the German Maximilian schachmann (Bora – hansgrohe) on the Slovenian’s rear wheel. He confidently won the sprint for the day's victory ahead of Schachmann and Pogacar. This means that tomorrow he will no longer be at the start in the national championship jersey, but in the Maglia Rosa. Top favorite Pogacar can be satisfied despite missing out on the day's victory. Because some of his opponents have already lost valuable time today.

Calmejane conquers the mountain jersey

Six men were able to break away from the peloton immediately after the start in Venaria Reale. However, as UAE Team Emirates immediately took control, it became clear early on that the breakaway group would have no chance of winning the day today. The French Louis Barre (Arkea – B&B Hotels), Nicolas Debeaumarche (Cofidis) and Lilian Calmejane (Intermarché – Wanty), the Eritrean Amanuel Ghebreigzabhier (Lidl – Trek), as well as the Italians Andrea Pietrobon (Polti Kometa) and Filippo Fiorelli (VF Group – Bardiani CSF – Faizanè) at least used their trip to determine the interim rankings among themselves. You can be the lucky winner Lilian Calmejane regard. He collected the most mountain points and will therefore be able to compete in the mountain jersey tomorrow.

Chessman attacks

UAE Team Emirates kept the pace of the field high throughout the day and did not give the breakaway a lead of more than three minutes. Up the Colle Maddalena, the men in white pushed the pace so much that in addition to the classic sprinters, some strong climbers were left behind, including them Romain Bardet (dsm-company PostNL), Thymen Arensmann (Ineos Grenadiers) and Michael Woods (Israel – Premier Tech). Also German hope Florian Lipowitz (Bora – hansgrohe) could no longer keep up with the enormous pace. As a result, the UAE Team Emirates also ensured that there were hardly any helpers available, only Rafal Mayka (UAE) was still at the side of Tadej pogacar (UAE). This meant that even a dangerous group could move around for a short time Maximilian schachmann (Bora – hansgrohe), Damian Caruso (Bahrain – Victorious) and Nicola Conci (Alpecin – Deceuninck). The last-mentioned Italian finally started to solo.

Pogacar attacks in Bivio di San Vito

When the last climb to the mountain village of Bivio di San Vito was reached, the Tadej pogacar (UAE) the expected attack. Together with Jhonathan Narvaez (Ineos Grenadiers) on the rear wheel, he flew past the previously leading soloist and plunged into the descent. But the duo didn't stay to themselves. Also Maximilian schachmann (Bora – hansgrohe) found the way forward. So this trio – consisting of Pogacar, Narvaez and Schachmann – should win the day and win the Maglia Rosa.
