The mini mini tool in the test: Cyclus Tools Folding Tool Mini

3 April 2024 by Andrew Waldera

Test mini tools: The multi-tool series from Cyclus Tools, which includes a total of three folding tools, includes the Mini model, a very compact tool for quick repairs on the side of the road. As with all tools in the series, there is no chain tool here. Given the size of the tool, however, this is no surprise. To say it straight away: Mini really means mini in this case.

Cyclus Tools Folding Tool Mini Minitool: Structure and processing

With its folding tools, the company that specializes in professional bicycle tools offers three little helpers for on the go. The smallest tool in the series is the Mini model. In this case, the term Mini really says it all: at around 53 x 30 x 18 millimeters, the folding tool fits into even the smallest trouser or jersey pocket. The weight of only 79 grams should bring tears of joy to the eyes of purists. The selection of tools is also a source of amazement, at least when looking at the complete set of Allen keys from 2 to 8 millimeters. There is also a slotted and Phillips screwdriver.

handling

Some of the individual tools sit quite tightly in the metal frame construction, so unintentional unfolding is impossible. Due to the dimensions and the stable construction of the frame, the folding tool is extremely torsion-resistant. However, the tools are kept quite short, which is why high tightening torques are difficult to implement when screwing. The multitool also doesn't fit perfectly in the hand. It's enough to quickly tighten a screw, but serious repairs are hardly possible. The almost comical-looking slotted and Phillips screwdrivers that are also on board serve more of an alibi function.

A multitool for purists: The Cyclus Tools Folding Tool Mini finds enough space in every corner or pocket. The very compact tool scores points with a complete set of Allen keys. However, the small pack size and the resulting short tools severely limit both the feel and the leverage.
